PURPOD100™: The Certified

Massimo Zanetti compostable pods

PurPod100™

Your customers can enjoy the great taste and convenience of single-serve coffee without worrying about the environmental impact. The 100% compostable PURPOD100™ is compatible with all K-CUP®* brewers and is designed to go back to the land – not into a landfill.

Coffee 3 – Organic material rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium
Filter 4 – 100% compostable mesh

k-cups encircling the earth

9.8** billion K-Cups®* were sold in 2014 – enough to circle the Earth 12 times.

With composting, we will reduce the amount of plastic in our waste stream and improve the soil at the same time.

100% guilt-free.

PURPOD100™ is fully certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI). Bio-based materials in the PURPOD100™ will break down and turn into soil in less than six months. That’s great news for coffee drinkers, and even better news for the environment.

What makes certified compostable the right solution?

Composting

Certified 100% compostable products have gone through rigorous testing that proves they break down efficiently. They have the additional benefit of returning valuable nutrients, such as the nitrogen found in coffee grounds, into the soil. Our PURPOD100™ can be composted with other household items such as paper egg cartons, food scraps, newspaper, and lawn clippings.

Recycling

While some single-serve plastic cups are technically recyclable, the process is time consuming and tedious. Each plastic cup must be carefully separated and cleaned before disposal into recycling bins, which makes using plastic cups decidedly less convenient. Even when consumers take such extreme measures, most facilities can’t separate the small plastic cups from the rest of their materials, so they end up in the landfill anyway.

Biodegrading

So-called “biodegradable” solutions are not subject to any sort of standard testing or certification. Most often, these products end up in the landfill where degradation is a very slow process, sometimes taking centuries. And landfills create methane, a potent greenhouse gas.
